Here are some questions/answers about Clothes Closet:

What is the Beaverton Schools Clothes Closet? The Beaverton Schools Clothes Closet is a volunteer service organization that provides clothing for children in grades K-12 enrolled in a Beaverton school. The Clothes Closet is staffed by Beaverton School District parent group volunteers. Parent groups and individuals also support the Clothes Closet with financial contributions that are used to purchase new articles of clothing such as socks, underwear, coats and other hard to find items. Students can find school-type clothing at the Clothes Closet such as: jeans, t-shirts, polo shirts, sweatshirts, warm coats, socks and underwear.

Who can use the Clothes Closet?
Children in need, enrolled in the Beaverton School District may use the Clothes Closet up to two times (2) each school year and choose ten (10) items per visit. We do not provide clothing for adult members of the family. An admit slip from the child’s school is required to access the Clothes Closet.

Where do clothes for the Clothes Closet come from?
Most clothing comes from caring individuals who donate reusable clothing still suitable for children in grades K-12 to wear to school. Clothing also comes from lost and found items left at Beaverton schools. The Clothes Closet has several silent business partners who wish to remain anonymous. We ask that donated clothing be in good condition (freshly laundered, please) using the rule of thumb, “Would I want my child to wear this to school?” It is important that clothes be free from stains, tears, rips, holes, etc. We want children to feel good about themselves and the clothing that they choose at the Clothes Closet.

What can I do to help the Clothes Closet?
Volunteers are the mainstay of operation for the Clothes Closet. In addition to the parent groups who volunteer each Wednesday on a rotational basis, volunteers are needed for interim work. Volunteers help sort and hang donated clothing, launder clothes, conduct clothing drives and help clean the facility. A considerable amount of volunteer work continues in the summer. High school student groups, adult service groups, scout troops, senior citizens and client families are just some of the people who volunteer to help at the Clothes Closet.
