Winter Scrip Helps Fund 5th Grade Activities

Winter Scrip Helps Fund 5th Grade Activities

Scrip is a great fundraising program for the school where people buy gift cards to restaurants, grocery stores, and specialty shops and a percentage of the purchase price comes back to the school. It’s easy to do and you don’t spend any more money than you normally would.

For the months of February and March, all of the proceeds that the Scrip program makes will go to the 5th graders for their class activities like Outdoor School, a 3 day program where they’ll get a chance to go to the coast to study the area through hands-on experiments and research.

Please help support the 5th graders and order Scrip for your next grocery shopping stop, your next trip to the mall, or your next meal at a local restaurant. Order forms are available just outside the office door or online at http://bonnyslopebsco.org/committees/fundraising/scrip and they’re due at 9:00 AM Tuesday mornings for a return of the gift cards in your child’s backpack on Fridays. A limited quantity of Scrip gift cards are also available at school every Friday morning during the school assembly.

Ask Not What You Can Do For Bonny Slope, Ask What Bonny Slope Can Do For YOU!

Ask Not What You Can Do For Bonny Slope, Ask What Bonny Slope Can Do For YOU!

(Yes! We said that correctly!)

JFK famously said: “Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can
do for your country!” It was a direct and unapologetic call for action. As a
volunteer organization we certainly understand such a call, however, we on the
BSCO team would like to turn that request around and ask instead: “What can
BSCO do for you?”

Because of the commitment and dedication of our parents and community,
Bonny Slope has been one of the most renowned elementary schools in the state.
For over a year we kept asking and asking and asking… asking for money, asking
for time, asking for volunteers… and you kept giving and giving and giving. And
while we could always use more of each, we invite you to join us for November’s
BSCO meeting and a chance for us to return the favor!

Volunteers, Parents, Grandparents and the community are the life blood of this
organization. We thrive because of you, and we thank you. So in return we are
launching a periodic professional speaker series and kicking it off in November.
Join us as we host Steven Fulmer, an acclaimed speaker, published author,
international executive coach and Bonny Slope dad to share with us a powerful
message of human connection and courage in personal and professional
leadership. Invite your friends, teams and colleagues and join us for an
inspirational presentation that can have a direct impact on your life.

Message from your BSCO President – Kara Anderson

September 28, 2009 News No Comments

pres_webWelcome to the 2009-20210 school year!  I am so excited about my new role as BSCO (Bonny Slope Community Organization) President.  The BSCO, volunteers, and community members have worked hard to provide continued support to our school.  That hard work has set us up for a successful 2nd year at Bonny Slope Elementary.  The role of the BSCO is to establish and maintain a positive working relationship among parents, school and community.

The BSCO DOES
•    Support the educational programs and extracurricular activities of the school
•    Encourage parent involvement in their children’s education, class, and school
•    Provide feedback and suggestions for school programs
•    Coordinate programs and projects that will support or enrich the curriculum
•    Organize fundraising efforts to support additional programs, equipment, and services not covered in the school budget
•    Support the educational goals of the school and assist with attaining those goals through parent and community volunteerism
•    Recruit volunteers and coordinate volunteer efforts to staff BSCO functions and assist with school programs

The BSCO does NOT
•    Run the school
•    Force parents to participate in BSCO and/or school activities
•    Set policy regarding school programs
•    Define the school’s curriculum
•    Control the school’s budget
•    Set educational goals, testing requirements, or compliance factors
•    Have jurisdiction or authority over school staff, teachers, and other employees
Continue to visit our website, www.bonnyslopebsco.org, for updated information.  Also, be sure to attend our monthly meetings every 3rd Tuesday of the month.  All meetings are held at 7 PM in the school library.  Have a great year!

WE WANT (ok, need) YOU!

In the next two months, we’ll have the BSMart Fair, staff appreciation week, the pancake breakfast, the jog-a-thon and carnival. Whew! The team leaders are geared up and ready to go, but they could use some extra help. Can you spare some time? Even an hour would be helpful. You don’t need to lead an event, just contribute. There are plenty of ways you can contribute after school too – you don’t need to be available during the day for some tasks.

Your involvement has a great impact on the success of our school. Come join the fun, meet some new friends, get involved! Contact Gloria at zabel924@verizon.net and she’ll get you connected with the right people and they can provide you with more details. Thanks for helping make BSE an amazing school for our kids!

First Annual Science Fair at Bonny Slope

March 12, 2009 News, Science Fair No Comments

The 1st Annual Bonny Slope Science Fair was a huge success. There were over 450 people in attendance and over 200 student and class science presentations. Thank you to the many volunteers and sponsors of this great event. We also would like to the parents, teachers, and staff who were a great support. So much was done by so many people, both to mentor students and organize the event. The students did a fabulous job from start to finish with their scientific presentations and experiments: We all learned from their work – what a great science community we have! Thank you for sharing your time, talents and interests with us all. We enthusiastically look forward to many more fabulous science fairs.
