Passport Club Summer Fun!

PASSPORT CLUB hopes you’ll drop us a line this summer!

Wherever you roam, send a postcard home to:

Passport Club

Bonny Slope Elementary School

11775 NW McDaniel Road

Portland, OR 97229

Send a postcard to us this summer from anywhere you travel outside Portland or Beaverton. Tell us what you’ve seen and done. In September, we’ll display the postcards and map of where Bonny Slope students and staff (including graduating 5th graders) have traveled in Oregon, the U.S., and the world!

We’ll award a prize to four lucky student correspondents:

· The postcard sent from the farthest away

· Most educational message and postcard

· Most unusual postcard

· “Best in the West” – postcards from the West Coast

Also, don’t forget to pack your Bonny Slope t-shirt or sweatshirt when you go on your trip. Send a photo of yourself in your Bonny Slope clothing and we’ll hang it on a wall in the school.

Attention! Passport Club’s November Check Day arrives early on the 18th.

Attention! Passport Club’s November Check Day arrives early on the 18th.

Have you noticed that Check Day occurs at the end of the month? Well, that’s certainly true–it is scheduled on the last instructional Wednesday of each month. EXCEPT November! Many families find that the shortened school week of the Thanksgiving holiday is extra hectic. To make Passport Club participation easier at that busy time, we test one week earlier. So, please note that the November Check Day is on the 18th, NOT the 25th. Note that some Special Itinerary and Continent Challenge packets incorrectly showed the later date. Our apologies!

May Passport Club Update!

Hello there fans of Passport Club!

Your trip around the world with Passport Club is almost over.  This month’s Check Day is your last chance to show us what you learned about world geography.  You’ve made quite an accomplishment this year.  Did you know…if your goal was to learn Level 1 each month, you learned 40 countries?  Did you know…if you learned all 5 levels each month, you learned over 200 locations and 40 capital cities?

This month in Passport Club in Level One we are learning the locations of Iran, Norway, the Russian Federation, Guatemala, and Spain.  Just for fun, can you tell us what is the official name of the language spoken in Iran?  Hint: it is not called Iranian or Persian!  What about in Guatemala and Spain?  These two countries are so far apart on the the map, but they have something very important in common–their language.  Which language is it, anyway?

Passport Club News – April

April 1, 2009 Passport Club No Comments

What’s up this month in Passport Club? All students who learn Level One will learn the locations of Egypt, Germany, Greece, Kenya, and Mexico. Here’s a fun fact: did you know that our tradition of birthday cake and candles originated in Germany? “Happy birthday” in German is “Alles gute zum Geburtstag!”

Kindy classes gear up for Passport Club! This month on Check Day the kindergarten students get to visit Passport Club with their fifth-grade buddies to see how our students show off their geography skills. We will be so happy to welcome our eager new Passport Clubbers next September when they start first grade.

Congratulations, fourth-grade students who also do Special Itinerary! You learned all our 50 states and their capitals, and the provinces and territories of Canada and their capitals, too. This month you will get a chance to practice what’s in store for you next year: the Continent Challenge. On April and May Check Days you get to show us what you learned about the countries in North and Central America. Great work!
