2nd Annual Bonny Slope Science Fair

2nd Annual Bonny Slope Science Fair

Two weeks ago, we kicked off the 2010 Science Fair season with an exciting school assembly where the students learned about this year’s Featured Scientist, Jane Goodall.

This past week, presentations were given in each class to teach the Scientific Methodology through fun, hands-on experiments.  Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, and ALC classes discovered the best “Invisible Ink” for secret messages while 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade classes explored the density of liquids and solids with some surprising results!

Last Friday  was capped off with an early-bird drawing from all of the Science project entry forms which were turned into the office.  Karla Santana Martinez, a 3rd grader from Mrs. McLandrich’s class, won a bag of polished rocks donated by Piccolo Mondo.  She and her Scientist partner, Aya Attal, have chosen to examine the idea of “How Plants Grow” (even when turned upside down) as their Science project.  Sounds intriguing!

For those of you looking for information on the Science Fair or how to create a Science project, go to our Science Fair website at http://bonnyslopebsco.org/committees/science-fair for helpful details. Project entry forms are due by Friday, January 29th, and early-bird drawings will occur at every Friday school assembly through January 29th. On the 29th, the prize will be 2 tickets to OMSI! Dinner pre-orders from The Old Spaghetti Factory can also be made on the same form. Just attach your payment to the entry form and please make all checks payable to “BSCO”.

The success of this event will depend upon the help of many volunteers.  If you, or anyone else you know (e.g. friend, relative, neighbor, older student), would like to lend a hand, we’d love the help!  For only 45-60 minutes, volunteers can show their support of the children, our school, and this amazing event! And, if your company is looking for a service project as a way to give back to the community, here’s a great opportunity. Contact Carol Loescher at cnl@loeschercentral.com for more information.

Mark your calendars and join us for the 2nd Annual Bonny Slope Science Fair on the evening of Friday, March 5th. Great food and a great time will be had by all! You won’t want to miss it!

First Annual Science Fair at Bonny Slope

March 12, 2009 News, Science Fair No Comments

The 1st Annual Bonny Slope Science Fair was a huge success. There were over 450 people in attendance and over 200 student and class science presentations. Thank you to the many volunteers and sponsors of this great event. We also would like to the parents, teachers, and staff who were a great support. So much was done by so many people, both to mentor students and organize the event. The students did a fabulous job from start to finish with their scientific presentations and experiments: We all learned from their work – what a great science community we have! Thank you for sharing your time, talents and interests with us all. We enthusiastically look forward to many more fabulous science fairs.
