Fork it Over Volunteers Needed!

Fork it Over Volunteers Needed!
Let’s not tolerate food waste and hunger in our community!
Here is an easy opportunity to stop the wasting of food that occurs at the same time people are going hungry right here in the greater Beaverton area.  It’s called Fork It Over.
Here’s how it works:  School cafeteria food, which would otherwise be thrown out, is packaged by nutrition services staff at each school and made ready for delivery to local food pantries.  Fork It Over volunteers pick the food up and make the delivery.  How simple is that?
You can help by transporting food from schools to a food pantry.  Whether you volunteer once a month, or once a week, your help is greatly needed.  The commitment is about an hour of your time and the use of your own vehicle.  To volunteer, go to www.beaverton.k12.or.us/departments/nutrition-services/fork-it-over, or send questions to forkitoverbsd@gmail.com.
This is one of the easiest volunteer opportunities you will ever have and the impact is huge!

Volunteer Opportunities! Check it out!
  • Our wonderful Library staff is in need of volunteers to help with book check-out and re-shelving.  Help is needed especially on Thursdays but they could use help other days as well.  Contact Laurie @ laura_bishop@beavton.k12.or.us – even a half hour of your time would be greatly appreciated.
  • The Cafeteria Staff is always looking for an extra set of hands.  Flexible shifts are always available.  Contact Gloria @ bslopevolunteer@gmail.com to join the fun.  (They’ll even feed you!)

Volunteers & Background Checks

October 8, 2009 Volunteer No Comments

First, thanks so much for volunteering at BSE. In an effort to keep the kids safe, all volunteers are required to compete a background check and must wear their BSE photo id when volunteering.

The office staff will be checking for volunteer badges when you come into school to volunteer. If a staff member notices someone in the school without a badge, they will be asked to return to the office.

All background checks and photo ids from last year (2008-09) will carry over to this year (2009-10). Anyone that has an id from 2008-09 is cleared to volunteer. The badge was issued only after the background check was finalized last year.

If you have been issued a badge, you are all set to volunteer.

If you do not have a badge, there are just two things you need to do in order to be eligible to volunteer:

1. complete the background check at beavton.k12.or.us/volunteer
2. have your picture taken so an id badge can be created – just stop in the office at any time between 8.00 – 4.00 daily to get your picture taken

Once the background check has been completed and a picture taken, a photo id will be created. Once the badge is ready, you will be notified via email that you are set to volunteer. Even if you are not a weekly or monthly volunteer and plan on attending a class party or chaperoning a field trip, you must have an id badge (which means you have to complete the background check).

Thanks for your help in keeping BSE a safe place for our kids! Please feel free to contact us with any questions.
