The kick off is Tuesday October 6th during lunch recess!!!
What is the Bobcat Trail Club?
The Bobcat Trail Club is a running/walking program for Bonny Slope Elementary. The goal of the Bobcat Trail Club is to encourage fitness in a fun way! Kids will run/walk laps on the track and accumulate the laps completed. Rewards will be given after designated milestones are reached.
When Do I Run/Walk?
Kids can run/walk during their lunch recess on Tuesdays (kindergarteners will run during their recess). This will be run by volunteers. Mrs. Wardell will have a before school running time on Thursday mornings at 8am. This will start on Thursday October 8th. Any laps ran in PE will also count. Teachers and family members are welcome and encouraged to run with the kids. The program will run through June 1st.
How Do I Sign Up?
All kids are automatically signed up and can participate as they wish. Once you start running on Tuesday, Thursday or in PE, you have started the journey to the marathon distance.
How Do I Track My Laps Ran/Walked?
Each child will be given a card with 40 numbers on it. As laps are completed, volunteers will punch one number for each lap ran.
Milestones (40 laps = ¼ marathon)
• ¼ marathon
• ½ marathon
• ¾ marathon
• marathon
• ultra marathon
Rewards
Each day for participating, the children will get a paw print hand stamp.
After completing each ¼ marathon (one card), a paw print sticker will be given to the child at the track.
Once a month the names of children meeting new milestones will be individually read in PE. They will then also be recognized as a group at a Friday Assembly.
The names for each milestone will then be added to the Bobcat Trail Club Bulletin Board.
The following other rewards will be given:
• ¼ marathon – “Bobcat Trail Club ’09-‘10” wristband given at the track
• ½ marathon – hot chocolate or lemonade with the Principal
• Marathon – Bobcat Trail Club Marathoner Party! This party will happen at the end of the school year for all kids that complete a marathon. The party will be a ½ hour long extra recess at the end of the day with a snack.
• Ultra Marathon (two marathons) – Paw Print pin given at assembly
What if there is Bad Weather?
The Bobcat Trail Club will follow the school’s decision on weather. On Tuesdays if the children are required to play undercover or are not allowed on the track for some reason, the Bobcat Trail Club will not happen that day. If it rains on Thursday mornings, the children will run undercover.
