The Bonny Slope Science Fair promotes science in a fun, non-competitive atmosphere where every participant is a winner! Last year, all students participated, either with the help of their teachers doing a class project or doing individual and partner projects. 227 students submitted an individual or partner project. At the fair, students will have an opportunity to share what they have learned with friends and discuss their projects with and receive positive feedback and encouragement from reviewers. Everyone is encouraged to come to the fair, wander through and view the many projects, participate in hands-on experiments
and demonstrations, and have fun with science!
Why enter the Science Fair?
Participating students will:
- Discover that Science is FUN!
- Gain active (“hands-on”) learning and inquiry opportunity
- Learn to manage project timeline over a long duration
- Apply math skills
- Enhance presentation and communication skills
- Increase Science literacy
- Become more knowledgeable about how the world around them works
- Meet Oregon State science standards
- Build confidence and pride
Who can participate?
All Bonny Slope students may enter an individual, pair, or group Science project.

Volunteers are critical to the success of the Science Fair
We need volunteers who will give anywhere from 45 minutes to a couple hours helping to set up before and clean up after the event, checking-in project the night before and the morning of the event, work a shift serving dinners in the cafeteria, work a shift helping students at demonstration stations, and, most importantly, work a shift reviewing student projects at the fair. You DON’T have to be a scientist or have a science background to be reviewer. You DO have to enjoy sharing the excitement and enthusiasm of our student scientists and be curious about how and why they did their project and give positive feedback.
If you can help with the event: helping with the setup, serving in the kitchen, checking in projects or students, talking with and reviewing the projects of these young scientist, or helping with the clean-up, please sign up online. If you are a scientist or know a scientist who would be willing to come to the fair and share with our students what being a scientist is like, please contact Don Carder at bsco.sciencefair@yahoo.com.”
