Volunteers Making a Difference!
The volunteers at Bonny Slope who contribute their time and talent make a significant difference to our school. When you volunteer at Bonny Slope you become part of the community. No amount of time is ever too small – we need you!
The Volunteer Handbook is your guide to the programs and events that enrich your child’s educational experience at Bonny Slope. We invite you to read it with an eye to how you might be able to participate. We hope to have many grandparents and neighbors who also volunteer – please consider this possibility for your family.
We hope you can find a way to volunteer a bit of yourself: you can make a difference in your child’s education. t h a n k s f o r a l l y o u d o !
How To Get Involved
Volunteer Interest Forms are now online at helpcounter.net/volunteer. Update your profile and decide how you’d like to be involved with your child’s education – work in his/her classroom, help with an event or lead a committee. You will receive a follow-up phone call or email from one of the following people: A team leader will call you if you’ve selected a program or event; a classroom coordinator will call you if you’re interested in classroom or party help; or a volunteer coordinator will call to discuss your availability and get you started.
If you want to learn more about a particular volunteer area, please call or email any volunteer committee team leader. We’ll be happy to help you sort through the options.
Grandparents and other community members are always welcome at Bonny Slope! Please contact Gloria Zabel at bslopevolunteer@gmail.com and she’ll find a volunteer spot that is right for you. You can also check out the BSCO Volunteer Handbook for a full description of some of the available opportunities and committees.
The school district requires all volunteers to complete a background check and the volunteer will then be issued an id badge (to be worn at all times when volunteering on campus). The simple, confidential background check can be accessed at www.beavton.k12.or.us/volunteer
The office staff will be checking for volunteer badges when you come into school to volunteer. If a staff member notices someone in the school without a badge, they will be asked to return to the office.
All background checks and photo ids from last year (2008-09) will carry over to this year (2009-10). Anyone that has an id from 2008-09 is cleared to volunteer. The badge was issued only after the background check was finalized last year.
- complete the background check at beavton.k12.or.us/volunteer
- have your picture taken so an id badge can be created – just stop in the office at any time between 8.00 – 4.00 daily to get your picture taken
Once the background check has been completed and a picture taken, a photo id will be created. Once the badge is ready, you will be notified via email that you are set to volunteer. Even if you are not a weekly or monthly volunteer and plan on attending a class party or chaperoning a field trip, you must have an id badge (which means you have to complete the background check).
If you need a volunteer badge, just stop by the office and Janet can take your picture. A badge will be issued once the background check is cleared.
