International Walk to School Day is Wednesday, October 8th
Join children and adults around the world to celebrate the benefits of walking.
Why Walk?
International Walk to School is an annual event that promotes walking for several reasons:
- Physical activity
- Teaching safe walking skills to children
- Awareness of how walkable a community is and where improvements can be made
- Concern for the environment
- Reducing traffic congestion, pollution and speed near schools
- Taking back neighborhoods for people on foot
- Sharing time with community leaders, parents and children
Visit the Walk to School website or contact the Earth Sustainability Team to get more information. Check back soon to see the plan for safe routes. Volunteer to help walk with kids along the safe routes or greet walkers with prizes of locally donated healthy fruit. Volunteers can enjoy the extra treat of hot coffee from Starbucks.
