End of the Year Message from BSCO

We’ve made it to the end of of another school year.  Before we all go off on vacation and lose touch, I would like to say thank you to everyone that has helped us out this year.  Our second year at Bonny Slope Elementary has been so successful because of all the parents and community members that have offered their time and energy to help our school thrive.  It has been a great year!  On behalf of the BSCO Board, THANK YOU!  Have a wonderful summer.

Bike to School Day a Rainy Success!

Bike to School Day a Rainy Success!

Thanks for everyone for helping out and making our first annual Bike to School Day a successful event, despite the weather (0.87 inches of rain on Wednesday per the Oregonian, so basically we picked THE wettest school day in a very wet stretch of days!).  Luckily the rain lightened up for both the morning and evening routes.

We had roughly 20-25 participants and another lucky winner won the bike helmet raffle prize.  This event clearly shows how the Bonny Slope community values walking and biking, and how we aren’t afraid of a little Oregon liquid sunshine.

We would like to give a special thanks to Mrs. Wardell for organizing the logistics at the school, and to Kim for allowing us to squeeze this event into the very tight end-of-year schedule.

This will give us something to build on for next year, when I am sure the sun will shine upon us!

Bike to School Day – June 2nd!

Bike to School Day – June 2nd!

Here is a photo and some information on this week’s Bike to School Day for the BSCO newsletter: Since the October Walk to School Day has been such a success, we have decided to add a spring Bike to School Day as well. The ride will be on Wednesday, June 2. There will be two organized routes, North and West; see the map and route times below. We will be riding to school in the morning, and back along the same routes (reversed) after school. It will be a lot of fun. A flier with more details including important information on bike safety and helmets, was included with the May 28th Paw Prints. Please read the Paw Prints flier, as the information below is preliminary and might change. We will be riding at a slow, easy pace, and we are staying mostly on low traffic streets. However, Bonny Slope is a hilly area, so be prepared to use those low gears! It might not be suitable for very young or inexperienced riders; parents use your best judgment. Parental participation is strongly encouraged. We also are looking for at least one more official ride volunteer. If you are interested, please contact ride leader Bill Hagerup at bill@hagerupfamily.com. So pump up those tires, oil that chain, find that helmet (make sure it fits correctly), and get ready to ride, rain or shine!

Morning Routes

We will gather at the school for snacks and prizes after the morning ride, before school starts.

North route 1.3 miles Leader: Mr. Hagerup

7:45 AM Bonny Slope Park parking lot (off Thompson)

7:50 AM Blackhawk Dr. & 114th Terr.

8:05 AM Bonny Slope School

West route 1.3 miles Leader: Mrs. Wardell

7:45 AM 128 Terr. & Saltzman Rd (the Big Tree)

7:53 AM Wildrose Dr. & Bauer Woods Dr. (beginning of Lorraine Dr.)

8:01 AM 126th ave. & McDaniel Rd (beginning of The Bluffs)

8:10 AM Bonny Slope School

Afternoon Routes

We will reverse the morning routes.   Departure time is 3:15PM.
