Ready! Set! Go!
Have you started collecting sponsors? Bonny Slope Elementary’s First Annual Jog-a-thon is approaching quickly! On Friday, May 8th all students in kindergarten through fifth grade will participate in Bonny Slope’s First Annual Jog-a-thon.
Jog-a-thon packets were sent home on Friday, April 3rd. If you haven’t already, please help your kid(s) to solicit pledges that sponsor them on a per lap basis or a total flat donation. We are encouraging the kids to talk with friends, neighbors, and relatives for these pledges. Each student will be encouraged to strive to reach their personal best distance, whether that means they walk, jog, or run on the track.
May 8th promises to be a fun day for all! Instead of going to Rhythms class students will go outside to the track to participate in the Jog-a-thon. Each class will be given 20 minutes to walk or run to the beat of the music playing on the field. Students will track the number of laps they run with a ‘lap tag’, which will be punched each time the student reaches the starting point. After the 20-minute run/walk, we will record the number of laps each student runs and each child will be given a snack and with water before they return to their classroom. Remember, this is a rain or shine event. Please be sure to dress your child in weather-appropriate clothing on May 8th.
On the day of the event, the students will bring their lap tags home so they have a record of how many laps they ran when they collect their pledges. Students will be asked to submit all the money they raise between Monday, May 11th and Friday, May 15th. Please hold on to your child’s donations until the week of May 11th; we will not be collecting early donations.
The jog-a-thon is our only large fundraiser for the spring. The money raised during this event will help to fund spring BSCO events such as the Carnival, and will help to ensure the BSCO has funds to support next fall’s events. We expect the Jog-a-thon to be a major fundraiser for our school. If each student raises $15, we will raise over $7,000 for student activities. If your child has enjoyed BSCO sponsored programs such as the Back-to-School Picnic, the Harvest Festival, the Artist-in-Residence, the Art Lit Program, the Bobcat Trail, or the Science Fair (just to name a few) be sure to help them to get their sponsors!
If you have any questions regarding the jog-a-thon, feel free to contact Jennifer Hillman (martyjennh@comcast.net) or Shelly Brown (shelly@leedavies.com).
